Steve Irwin, famed Aussie adventurist known as the Crocodile Hunter, has died. Irwin, 44, was filming an underwater sequence on a reef off the northeast coast of Australia when he was stung in the heart by a stingray. Crew aboard Irwin's boat called emergency services in Cairns, and administered CPR until the team could meet up with a rescue helicopter. The well-known TV personality and father was pronounced dead around midday. "The world has lost a great wildlife icon, a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest dads on the planet," a friend of Irwin's said in a statement. "He died doing what he loves best and left this world in a happy and peaceful state of mind. Crocs rule!"
